Discover the surprising role artists played in 20th-century warfare in this compelling screening of Deception by Design.
During both World Wars, painters, sculptors, photographers and set designers were enlisted by the military to outwit the enemy. Using their artistic skill and intimate understanding of illusion, shadow and perspective, they designed bizarre decoys, elaborate sets and arresting camouflage.
Drawing on rarely seen archival footage and expert interviews, Deception by Design shines a light on a little-known chapter of modern warfare where art and deception went hand in hand. After the screening, stay for a panel discussion offering a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Deception by Design, along with insights into the evolution of camouflage in more recent conflicts.
