Although both the Victorian and Commonwealth governments made contributions to the construction of the Shrine, most of the money was raised in a community fundraising campaign launched to help fund the building of the Shrine.
The original receipts from these donations are held inside the bronze casket. Shrine records show that the receipts were originally intended to rest in the Crypt 'for all time'. To preserve them, the receipts were sealed in zinc containers and placed in the casket.
